How Long Does It Take Google to Index a New Website?

There's no fixed number — but there are realistic ranges

Google has never published a guaranteed indexing timeline, because it genuinely depends on your specific site. That said, patterns are consistent enough to set realistic expectations instead of guessing.

An established site with good history

A new page on a domain Google already crawls frequently — with a maintained sitemap and decent internal linking — is often crawled within hours and indexed within a day or two, sometimes faster.

A brand-new domain with no history

A site Google has never crawled before typically takes longer — commonly days to a few weeks for the first pages to appear, sometimes longer if the domain has no external links pointing to it yet and no submitted sitemap. Google crawls unknown domains more cautiously until it builds a track record.

What actually speeds it up

• Submitting an accurate, current sitemap in Search Console — this is the single most reliable discovery signal you control.
• Internal links from pages Google already indexes — a page only reachable via sitemap, with zero links pointing to it, is a weak signal.
• At least a few real external links from other indexed sites — this is what originally establishes trust for a brand-new domain.
• Using URL Inspection's "Request Indexing" for your highest-priority pages once they're live and error-free.
• For engines beyond Google — Bing, Yandex, Seznam, Naver — a direct IndexNow push the moment a page goes live, instead of waiting for their next scheduled crawl.

What doesn't help — and one myth to drop

Stuffing meta tags with keywords, submitting the same URL repeatedly, or buying "instant Google indexing" services does nothing — Google has no bulk real-time submission API the way Bing and others do via IndexNow. Anything claiming to instantly index a page on Google specifically is describing something that doesn't technically exist; Search Console plus a healthy site are the only real levers.

If it's taking noticeably longer than expected

Check the page's actual status in URL Inspection rather than guessing — it will tell you whether it's still waiting to be crawled or whether Google crawled it and chose not to index it — the fix is different for each.
