How to Check If a Page Is Indexed on Google (3 Reliable Ways)

1. The site: search operator

Search site:yourdomain.com/your-page in Google. If the page shows up, it's indexed. This is the fastest check and doesn't require owning the site — useful for spot-checking a competitor's page or a client site you don't have Search Console access to.

The catch: it's an approximation. Google's own documentation notes site: results aren't guaranteed to be complete or perfectly current — treat a positive result as reliable, but don't treat a negative result as absolute proof.

2. Search Console's URL Inspection tool

This is the authoritative source, but only for properties you own and have verified. Paste the exact URL into URL Inspection and it returns a live, specific answer: "URL is on Google" (indexed) or a specific reason it isn't — discovered but not yet crawled, crawled but not indexed, blocked by robots.txt, a noindex tag, or a canonical pointing elsewhere. Unlike site:, it tells you why, not just whether.

3. An exact-phrase search

Search a distinctive sentence or title from the page in quotes — "a unique phrase from your page". If the page ranks for its own exact wording, it's indexed, and this also gives a rough read on whether the content is being treated as unique rather than duplicate. Useful as a second opinion alongside site:, since the two occasionally disagree on edge cases.

Checking many pages at once

For more than a handful of URLs, don't check one at a time — open the Pages report under Indexing in Search Console. It breaks your entire site down by status: indexed, and every reason for non-indexed pages, each with the full list of affected URLs attached.

What to do with the result

If a page isn't indexed, URL Inspection's stated reason tells you which fix applies. Most non-indexed pages fall into either still waiting on a crawl or crawled and deliberately skipped — and those need genuinely different responses, so it's worth knowing which one you're dealing with before you start fixing anything.
